I Did Not Plagerize This

Shmuley Boteach on Jimmy Carter:

Jimmy Carter is not so much anti-Semite as anti-intellectual, not so much a Jew-hater as a boor. The real explanation behind his limitless hostility to Israel is a total lack of any moral understanding.

Carter wants to do what's just. His heart's in the right place. He just can't figure out what the right is. He is, and always has been, a man of good intentions bereft of good judgment. He invariably finds himself defending tyrants and dictators at the expense of their oppressed peoples. Not because he is a bad man, but because he is a confused man.

Carter subscribes to what I call the Always Root for the Underdog school of morality. Rather than develop any real understanding of a conflict, immediately he sides with the weaker party, however wicked or immoral.

DovBear Apologizes

Received via email. Reprinted with permission.

I made a mistake, and I am sorry.

Bottom line: I blog all day long, and sometimes I get lazy in ways large and small. On occasion, that included omitting to properly attribute sources. Now, DovWeasel has made my sins abundantly clear. My plan is to carefully review my blog, and to provide proper attribution in every instance. I hope to do this in the coming days and weeks, but I am making my intentions known now, so I won't be accused of destroying evidence.

Again, I apologize and make no excuses.

DovBear Is A Plagiarizer?

Not exactly a big surprise, but the extent of it sure is.

Some anonymous blogger sent out a mass email directing people to this site which chronicles DB's chronic lifting of other people's work.

Check it out.

This Could Be Interesting...

Senator Tim Johnson, D- South Dakota may have had a stroke. Power in the Senate now depends on what happens to him, as the Governor of South Dakota is a Republican.

What???????

While I don't think this bill has any chance of being passed by the Knesset, it's still pretty scary.

Why On Earth Wasn't This Declassified Months Ago???, Part II

The Wall Street Journal takes notice of the Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center's report on last summer's war.

Money quote:

Beyond the war in Lebanon, these images suggest how Islamists seek to use the restraint of Western powers against them. They shoot at our civilians from the safety of their own civilian enclaves that they know we are reluctant to attack. Then if by chance their civilians are killed, they call in CNN and al-Jazeera cameras and wait for the likes of Mr. Roth to denounce America or Israel for war crimes.

What A Chillul Hashem!

WCBS news at 12:00 just did a recap of the Rabbi Kolko's arrest.

Here's the video of last night's report.

When will people learn that trying to sweep something under the rug to avoid a Chilul Hashem will only result in a later and much larger Chilul Hashem?

What sounds worse? "Police today arrested a Brooklyn Rabbi on charges that he molested a student", or "Police today arrested a Brooklyn Rabbi on charges that he molested a student. Similar allegations going back 30 years have been made before, and the school administration has been accused of covering up the abuse?"

It's better to have a small Chilul Hashem today then a giant one tomorrow.

Why On Earth Wasn't This Declassified Months Ago???

That's what I'm wondering after reading this article in today's NY Times.

Israel’s military, which has been accused of abuses in its war against Hezbollah this summer, has declassified photographs, video images and prisoner interrogations to buttress its accusation that Hezbollah systematically fired from civilian neighborhoods in southern Lebanon and took cover in those areas to shield itself from attack...

...In video from July 23, a truck with a multi-barreled missile launcher, presumably from Hezbollah, is parked in a street, sandwiched between residential buildings. The video was transmitted from an Israeli missile approaching the truck. The screen goes fuzzy as the missile slams into the target.

In another video, from a Lebanese village, rockets are seen being fired from a launcher on the back of a truck. The truck then drives a short distance and disappears inside a building. Seconds later, the building itself disappears under a cloud of smoke from an Israeli bomb....

...Muhammad Srour, a young Hezbollah fighter, said he had initially received training in Iran and was undergoing further training in eastern Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley when the war broke out. He was sent to the front lines.

Like many Hezbollah fighters, he traveled by motorbike, but they were frequently the targets of Israeli forces. While transporting missiles, hidden in cloth, in and around the southern village of Aita al Shaab, “I carried a white flag,” Mr. Srour said.

If this stuff was released during the war, perceptions would have bcompletelyetly different. This is a common problem for Israel, they always seem to release evidence way after everyone has made up there minds.

A Shidduchim Etiquette Question

This one's for the ladies out there, but guys, feel free to respond as well.

Is it appropriate for a guy to walk a girl back to her front door at the end of a shidduch date?

I'm conflicted about this. One one hand, most of the times the girl will tell you not to bother as soon as she sees you removing your seat belt. Their embarrassed or uncomfortable, and it's not like you're getting a goodbye kiss on her front porch, so it can be just weird. Or they just don't want their nosy neighbor bothering them the next day. On the other hand, when you just pull up in front of her place and drop her off, it feels like you're doing carpool.

Any thoughts?

Very Cute

Note to the NY Times Editorial Board- it's really cute when you try to portray a conservative who wants something to be ruled unconstitutional as being "activist". We conservatives don't believe it automatic deference to the legislature, we believe in automatic deference to the Constitution. If the voters of state approved a slavery statute for blacks, I'd expect it be overturned by any court that hears a challenge to it. It's irrelevant that the court would be subverting the will of the people.

A Plea To All The Bloggers Out There

Many bloggers, including myself, don't use Haloscan, so we're stuck with whatever Blogger gives us.

For some reason, the default timestamp for Blogger comments only include the time and not the date of the comment. This is really annoying, as it is impossible to tell if a comment thread is still active, or has wrapped up several days ago. This can be remedied rather quickly in Blogger under Settings->Comments->Comments Timestamp Format.

Please make the necessary changes. This means you (in no particular order), Orthomom, Noyam, Jewish Atheist, Eli7, Irina, Krum, DAG, and there are plenty of others out there. Feel free to spread the word to any other blog that is committing this grievous sin.
