Of course they're smarter -- they have entrance exams. I wouldn't have guessed that they're richer (and they may not be -- the methodology of determining that seems kind of indirect) but it might be for the same reason. (Wealth and exams are correlated, of course.)
Thanks for this post. I always hated this argument, and never knew how to respond when people threw it at me. Now I have research on my side (although the Heritage Foundation is an extremely conservative organization so people may say it's not as reliabe...)
