Gun Control Laws Work Again
Click.
I know I'm being a bit crass here, but I've got no choice. Every time there's a school or workplace shooting the same thoughts go through my head. All I think about is the insanity of laws that forbid people from carrying concealed handguns in school or work. You're basically hanging a giant sign on the building informing every nutjob that everyone inside is utterly defenseless.

OR, if we had been able to pass the Assault weapons ban (blocked by uzi hugging republicans)this crackpot might not have been able to get his hands on a freaking AK 47!

One small problem with that line of reasoning- the gunman used 2 9mm pistols, not an AK-47, according to ABC News.

Regardless, I don't think most murders are committed with legally acquired handguns, so CWY's logic is still correct.
CWY - You're both right and being a bit crass. Of course, I basically did the same thing.
I doubt that a change in the law would have resulted in this not happening, but it almost assuredly would have severely limited the impact and killings. It sounds like even campus police weren't allowed to carry!

See also my top post... apparently, in 2002, there was a shooting rampage at a VA college. It was stopped by two students who were carrying after only two were killed.
All I can say is, you don't see stuff like this happening in Britain.

I'm not an expert on British crime, but one incident immeadiatly comes to mind....

You seem to be missing part of the equation. If your logic was correct, there would be many more firearm related crimes in schools and workplaces (why rob convenience stores and banks where people may have guns?)
The key is that if the shooter is a nutjob who wants to kill others and himself, the fact that there might be other guns around won't make the person any less nuts.
That said, I agree that the VT tragedy has almost nothing to do with gun control laws. Better mental health services and follow up are probably the only thing that may have made a difference.
